Burnout doesn’t discriminate. Even marketers who love the work can lose their spark, especially the ones running their own thing solo, juggling client work with zero time to think strategically. Sonia Moroni Duru knows that story well.
Marketing strategist, copywriter, brand and web designer, the kind of multi-hyphenate skillset most of us would kill for, and she still hit a wall. Here’s how she found her way back, and what you can steal from her playbook if you’re stuck in the same place.

The Skills The Programme Helped Her Rediscover
- Branding and marketing plan assignments pulled her straight back to her strategic roots.
- Working alongside people from wildly different backgrounds and industries stretched how she thinks about a brief.
- She rediscovered two things every strategist needs: real curiosity, and actually believing in the brands she works with.
How Sonia Reignited Her Passion For Marketing
- Years of running her own web design agency left her burnt out, hoping a new project would spark the excitement back. It didn’t.
- She found AMS’s Positive Impact Marketing certification at exactly the right crossroads.
- The hybrid format, real assignments alongside a genuine community, did what browsing another course never could.
“Curiosity drives deeper understanding, and believing in the brand you’re working for makes the work better too.”

How To Reignite Your Own Marketing Spark
- Go back to basics. Revisit the podcasts, books or projects that got you into this in the first place.
- Do the practical work. Assignments and hot seats rebuild confidence faster than reading about strategy ever will.
- Find your people. A room (or breakout call) full of different perspectives will show you angles you’d never find alone.
- Be kind to yourself while you do it. Burnout is temporary, and small, consistent steps get you back faster than waiting for motivation to strike.
Sonia says the certification works for two kinds of people: those just starting out in marketing, and the ones who’ve been in it a while and want to deepen their strategic skills without losing themselves in the process. If that’s you, have a look at the Positive Impact Marketing certification, our next cohort starts September 8th.
