When did social media become our new favourite search engine? And what your hashtag strategy has to do with it.
This month we go after Jason Momoa – yup, you read it right. Jess is trying to coerce Fab (and all our listeners) to join her in the rabbit hole that is Debug (a classic 2014 movie). Not to worry, though, we also provide you with our highlights from the world of social.
Fab and Jess take turns running through how to use (or not use) hashtags for individual platforms, including LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest. All with a side of algorithm talk for good measure.
It’s a matter to length
TikTok has increased the video description character limit to 2,200 characters. The update is exciting for creators and massive in terms of TikTok’s plans to become a search engine.
Not to be left behind, Instagram has also increased its Stories length to 60 minutes. When you post a Story under 60 seconds, it will show as one. The ability to post longer uninterrupted Stories somewhat blurs the lines between Stories and Reels – and opens up a whole conversation about accessibility.
Three lessons from this episode:
- How to use hashtags across platforms
- Why captions matter on Instagram Stories
- The pros and cons of newsjacking
Did you know that 33% of Tiktok users regularly get their news on the social video app? Inspired by this, Jess and Fab share some of their favourite newsjacking accounts online (we are looking at you, Ryanair).
